Miss Frances Ruth Brown of Lake View Park, Asheville and a former teacher in the Asheville Area for 20 years died at 4:15pm on November 3rd in an Asheville Hospital following a few days illness with pneumonia. Services were held at 4pm on November 5th at Hillside Street United Methodist Church where Miss Brown was an active member and an official. Burial followed in the Brown Family plot at Riverside Cemetery. Officiating were the Rev. James McLarty and Rev. Fred Dryman.
Miss Brown taught first grade at Claxton Elementary for the past 11 years where she was considered outstanding in her profession and was very popular with the children in her classes. In addition to her vocation and until a month ago she also served as superintendent of the church school and at the time of her death was chairman of the church board of Christian education, superintendent of the children's division of the church school and director of children's work in the Asheville District where she was highly regarded in each capacity.
Miss Brown was preceded in death by her parents, Charles W. (C.W) and Josephine Walton Brown and one brother, James Van Brown Jr. She is survived by one sister, Miss Opal Brown of Asheville and several Aunt's and Uncles.
