Joseph Raphael Eliason was born in Millville, the son of Joseph Emil Eliason and Esther Phoebe Yeates. After graduating from South Cache High School, he attended Brig­ham Young College and Utah State Agricul­tural College. He also took courses from the International Correspondence School. He filled a mission to the Southern States in 1921-1923. He worked for the United States Postal Service in Logan from 1925 until he retired in 1966.

On August 11, 1926, he married Ruth Marie Olson, the daughter of James Olson and Sarah DeGrey. She was born January 6, 1905, in Millville; and she was involved in church and community activities.

In addition to serving as Bishop of the Nibley LDS Ward, he served in the Stake Sunday School and in the ward auxiliaries. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.

Ruth taught in many of the Church organizations, and she was a member of the American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary. She died April 1, 1979.

The children of Joseph and Ruth are: James Raphael, Cathe­rine, Gloria Beth and Glenn Maurice.
