Jane I. Carroll, 88, died July 11, 2009, at Hester Care Center at Wesley Towers. She was born May 2, 1921, in Kinsley, the third daughter of Frank Joseph and Etta Marie Tolley Bishop.

Her family went to California in 1923, returning to Kansas in 1931. Jane graduated from Kinsley High School in 1939.

She married J.D. Carroll at the Dodge City Methodist Church on Oct. 9, 1941. He died Aug. 7, 1994. They lived in Wichita, where J.D. worked at Cessna until he was called to service in World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

They later moved to Hutchinson in 1954, where they started J.D. Carroll Construction Company. Jane and her husband were both pilots and enjoyed many years of flying together.

She belonged to Lysle Rishel American Legion Post No. 68 Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star Silver Leaf Chapter No. 464.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009, in Hillside Cemetery, Kinsley, with the Rev. Keith Ellis presiding.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be sent to the J.D.
