Irene Averill, 71, of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 11 at Allen Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
She was born May 16, 1938 in north Waterloo, on a farm, daughter of Ernest and Laura Johnson Kelch. She married Charles "Chuck" Averill October 1, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Irene was employed at Friendship Village for 27 years.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bob (Margy) of Marshalltown and Merle (Lucy) of Conrad; an uncle, Carlton Kelch of Long Island, New York; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; two brother-in- laws, Raymond (Rita) Averill and Jay (June) Dunn all of Cedar Falls; three sister-in-laws, Beulah LaPole of Waterloo, LaVonne Turner of Cedar Falls, and Darleen Beuhner of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; a daughter, Becky in 1965, four brother-in-laws, Jim LaPole, Don Turner, Lee Beuhner and Bob (Pat) Averill.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hagarty – Waychoff – Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Irene enjoyed dancing, being with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids and taking care of her special friend, Maxine. She will be remembered for her loving heart and "spunky" zest for life. She loved watching movies and hanging out with her two best friends, Wanda and Julie, aka: The Three Musketeers.
