LCpl Barbozaflores was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He died while supporting combat operations. Pedro and his family came to this country when he was 1. They first lived in Glendale, California for 14 years but his parents later moved to Utah where their oldest son lived. Pedro and his other siblings chose to remain in California because they didn't want to leave their friends and California felt like their home. He attended Hoover High School in Glendale but didn't graduate. When he decided to join the Marines, he took GED classes at the local community college. In March 2008, he joined the Marines, became a crewman in a light-armored vehicle and was deployed to Afghanistan in June. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Before leaving, Pedro told his mother that he was happy being a Marine and for her not to worry about him. He told her that when he got back in December, they would have a big party with the entire family. Pedro was respectful and kind to others. He put off getting married and having children because he knew it was a big responsibility and he wanted to wait until he could devote more time to them. Pedro always wanted to help people so he planned on becoming a police officer after getting out of the military.
