The sixth of nine children born to John William and Pearl(Best)Cunningham.
He moved to Barstow in 1921, where he married Murriel Jane Hopkins. A short time later he passed the State Board of Pharmacy exam and with his brother, Ed Cunningham, operated the jointly owned Cunningham Drug Store in Barstow. He soon bought Ed's share and owned and managed his own pharmacy there for many years, retireing in 1943.
Following his retirement as a druggist in Barstow, he reside in Crestline for a brief period and operated andother drugstore, later another residence and drug store in San Bernardino. After arranging for his sons Gerald and Eugene to manage the San Bernardino and Redlands pharmacies, he left to Corona Del Mar where he died.
