Marie was the next to the youngest of 10 children born to Winfield Allen and Joanna Cynthia (Zimmerman) Bitler. She left home at the age of 16 and made her way to Lansing, Michigan where she was employed and later met her future husband Dale R. Munro. Four child blessed this union, Kathleen Marie, Robin Lynn, Patricia Ann and Sherry Dale.
