Son of Alexander Peter Yates and Easter McGuffey, my great, great, great, great grandparents.

Some researchers show his date of death to have been December 12, 1915 but this is incorrect as I have a copy of his death certificate and it clearly shows he died on 2/4/1916. He is buried in Friendship Cemetery and to date I have not been to his grave but suspect the December 12, 1915 date may be recorded on it and thus the reason why this error continues to be seen.

The reverend traveled the countryside astride his old white mule delivering the Good News of Christs love and sacrifice to hundreds of rural Missourians, even during the Civil War. His first wife was Sarah David, the sister of his brother Andrew Jackson Yates' wife. His second wife was to a widow named Charlotte Crossland Osborn.

James had the following children with Sarah David:
Susanna S. YATES 10/19/1848 – 4/15/1933
(m.Henson Grover Finley 11/14/1836 - 11/18/1913)
Nancy Elizabeth YATES 7/18/1851 – 4/10/1924
(m. Thomas Smith Storie 1850 - 8/28/1931)
Easter "Callie" YATES 5/13/1853 – 4/10/1924
(m. William Henry Lewis 5/14/1845 - 7/18/1922)
(m. Rev. James Simpson)
Alexander YATES 1855 -
(John?) Riley V. YATES 1859 - 1907
Mary Jane YATES 12/20/1861 - 12/01/1904
Thomas YATES 1870 -

Some researchers have Thomas as being the child of James and Charlotte Terna Crossland Adams, AKA "Lottie", his second wife. This is not the case as Thomas was born about 1868 - 1870. James and Charlotte were not married until 1873 and the 1870 census clearly shows her name as Adams and married to a James Adams.
