My Great-Grandfather. Harry was the son of Isaac England, a shoemaker and pioneer settler of Robertson County, Tennessee. His mother was Mary Jane Pike, daughter of John Pike and Sarah Byrd. Harry lost his parents at a young age and was raised by Miles and Lucy Kirby, Miles being a harness-maker and friend of Harry's father, Isaac.

He was a conductor on the Louisville-Nashville Railroad for 12 years, then went into tobacco farming. Later he became a merchant with a local grocery business. In 1865 he married Mary Zelicka Connell, daughter of Giles and Kitty Connell, pioneer settlers of Sumner and Robertson counties. They had four children - Lucy, Harry, Elizabeth (Bessie), and Virginia (Jennie). After Mary's death at just 38, Harry married her younger sister, Kate. Harry and Kate had one son, Connell Kirby England in 1884. He lived only six months. Harry died in 1892 at 54 years of age.
