CHARLES MARTIN STIDHAM

Charles Martin Stidham, 82, passed away November 4, 1963.

He was born in Norton, Wise County, Ohio to David Martin Stidham and Sarah Jane Collings Stidham. He married Cora Conley. To this union were born 17 children: Clarence Stidham, Ernest Stidham, Lucy Stidham, Annie Stidham, Allie Stidham, Willima Stidham, Pearl Stidham, Mary Lou Stidham, Thurston T. Stidham and five more.

Funeral services were held Thursday November 7, 1963 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bloom Freewill Baptist Church in Scioto Furnace, Ohio with Reverend Milford Roddlebarger officiating.

Interment was made in the Vernon Cemetery, New Boston, Scioto County, Ohio with Criss Brothers Funeral Service handling the funeral arrangement.

CHARLES STIDHAM

Charles and Cora were from Ashland, Kentucky. They eloped when Cora was 15 years old. After they married, her dad said he lost the best farm hand he had.

Charles loved children. He and Cora had 17. After the last baby was born, David, Cora couldn't have any more children and Charles got mad! there were 9 girls (one set of twins) and 8 boys.

To this union were born: Haskel Patrick Stidham, Thurston Thomas Stidham, Lorena Jeannette Stidham, Lucy Stidham (Gill), Lola Stidham (Shoemaker), Charles Stidham, Annie Ester Stidham (Adams). Allie Ellen Stidham (Stout), Pearl Elizabeth Stidham (Whistman), Gilford Stidham, Ruby Stidham, Eugene Stidham, James Clarence Stidham, Willa Mae Stidham (Blyth), Mary Lou Stidham (Black), Paul Ernest Stidham and David Stidham.

Charles was a farmer but had several other jobs, one of them was an "Undertaker." He always built the house they lived in; nothing more than a 3 bedroom house.

Charles Stidham

Charles M Stidham, 82, of Refugee Rd., Hebron area, died early Monday evening in his home. He had been in failing health three years.

He was born March 1, 1881, in Virginia, the son of Martin and Jane (Collings) Stidham. He lived in the Hebron area 17 years, and was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Bloom Freewill Baptist Church in Scioto Furnace.

He is survived by his widow, Cora; seven, daughters, Mrs. Lucy Gill, Mrs. Annie Adams, Mrs. Willa Mae Blythe, all of Hebron, Mrs. Lola McFacland of West Union, Mrs. Allie Stout of Kirkersville, Mrs. Pearl Whistman of Portsmouth and Mrs. Mary Lou Black of Thornvllle.

Also surviving are six sons, Haskell of the home, Thurston and Charles W. of Hebron, Clarence of Frazeysburg; Ernest of Newark and David of Granville; 57 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Hughey of Springfield, Mrs. Frank Lucas of Ashland, Ky., Mrs. Mollie Blankley of Germain, N. Y.; one brother, Patrick of Modesta. Calif. Two sons and two daughters are deceased.

Services will be held at 2 p. m. at Bloom Freewill Baptist Church in Scioto Furnace. The Rev. Milford Riddlebarger will officiate, with burial in Vernon Cemetery near New Boston. Friends may call at Criss
Brothers Funeral Home after 7 tonight and until 10 p.m. Wednesday

After Charles and Cora married, they moved from Carter Co., Kentucky to Virtginia where they stayed about 3 years, thn moved to Scioto Co., Ohio where they bought a small farm. OCCUPATION: farmer, miner and carpenter. Charles famred in the summer, and returned to Virginia in the winters to work in the coal mines.
