Stayton - Elmer F. Guenther, 86, died early Thursday morning. As he began his journey Home, he was comforted and surrounded in the love of his wife, children, and grandchildren. Elmer was born August 4, 1916, in Crofton NE to Casper and Anna (Hendricks)Guenther. He was the oldest of 12 children. He married Marjorie Yager on January 17, 1939, and raised 7 children in Aumsville, Oregon.
Elmer was a small town farmer for many years and also worked at Willamette Plywood Mill and Stayton Canning Co., prior to his retirement. He loved to dance and in recent years, found much joy in planning and participating in senior bus touring trips to Puckerbrush, Reno, and other points in Nevada. Elmer had a great sense of humor and enjoyed entertaining those around him with his witty jokes. His positive attitude was contagious to all those around him. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His gift in the last few years was being a wonderful caregiver to his wife.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Marjorie; and seven children and their families: Larry Guenther of Lyons; David and Donna Guenther of Sacramento, CA; Roger and Debbie Guenther of Stayton; Marilyn and Dennis Vonderstrasse of Dallas; Charlene and John Eastman of Salem; Jim and Joy Guenther of Aumsville; and Bill Guenther of Aumsville; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters Eileen Crespo of Stockton, CA; Betty Lou Helm of Tigard; Carol Ann Prebay of Bridgeport, MI; and brothers Norbert and Norman of Crofton, NE.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Richard, Art, Lawrence, and Earl and sisters Mildred and JoAnn.
Visiting will be from Sunday, September 22 at Weddle Funeral Home in Stayton.
