Robert J. Nykiel, Sr., age 88, of Grosse Ile, Michigan, died July 3, 2009.
He was the husband of the late Eileen Nykiel and the father of Robert Nykiel, Jr., Mary Lynn Nykiel, Richard (Margaret) Nykiel, Edward (Debbie) Nykiel.

Robert Nykiel graduated in 1938 from St. Alphonsus H.S. and attended Michigan State College. He was a corsair pilot in WW II and later a reserve at Grosse Ile N.A.S until retiring at the rank of Major. He distinguished himself in various careers as a builder, developer, mechanical contractor, estimator and salesman. He was active in the VFW and as an usher at Sacred Heart Church for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed crossword puzzles and was completely devoted to his family. He was a kid at heart, always talking and joking with youngsters.
