Graduated from Middlebury College, Vermont in 1836. He labored in the ministry until he retired in 1882. His first charge was in Kingston, N.Y., but he had been in Chicopee Falls for 35 years.
He died at the house of Mrs. Packer, No. 2 Grace court in Brooklyn, where he had been stopping for a few days.
Thank you for the contribution!
I'd also like to mention that his son, Edward Bellamy, attained national recognition for his Utopian science fiction novel, "Looking Backwards." Published in 1888, it takes place in the year 2000 and spawned the "Nationalists Clubs."
The Bellamy Homestead still stands in Chicopee Falls. It is listed as a National Historic Landmark and houses the Chicopee Historical Society.
