JOSEPH MOSES ALLARD was born on Febraury 6, 1874 in Churubusco, New York to Moses Allard and Marie-Modeste (Potenaude) Allard.

He married Margaret Esther Brady. To this blessed marriage were born:

Evelyn Marie Modeste Allard (1908-1971)
Margaret Josephine Allard (1910-1995)

Joseph Allard of Mora Dies at Age 99
Joseph Moses Allard, father-in-law of Ernest Paul of Mora, died at the Cambridge Nursing Home Friday, Oct. 26 at the age of 99. He moved to Mora with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Paul in 1963 and resided here until two years ago when he entered the Cambridge Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 29, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Red Lake Falls with Father Gerald Noesen officiating, Pallbearers were grandchildren and great grandchildren, Gerald E. Paul, Elder Metsa, Loren Howard, Paul Metsa, John Metsa and Daniel Howard. Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery at Red Lake Falls. Akkerman Mortuary, Mora, was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Moses Allard, son of Moses and Marie-Modeste Allard, was born Feb. 6, 1874, at Churubusco, NY. He grew up in Red Lake Falls, Minn., and was married to Margaret Esther Brady Aug. 20, 1902 at Red Lake Falls.

They moved to Big Falls where he established a homestead; later he operated a candy store. In 1933 he moved to Joseph [incorrect–this should be Allard], Ore., where he spent several years as a guide for dude ranches. He returned to Bemidji in 1949 and made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest [& Evelyn] Paul. He moved to Mora with them in 1963.

He was well known for his gardening and won many awards at the Minnesota State Fair throughout the years. Because of his interest in the work done by Boys Town in Nebraska, he was given an honorary life membership in Boys Town. He was a member of the Catholic Church.

Mr. Allard was preceded in death by his wife [Margaret Esther Brady] who died Nov. 21, 1927, his daughter, Evelyn Paul, who died Nov. 22, 1971, his parents, eight sisters [?], one brother, and one grandchild, Naomi Paul.

Memorials are preferred to Boys Town, Omaha, Neb.

As related by his great-grandaughter:

Some of my cousins when they were very young referred to our Great-grandfather Joe Allard as "Small Grandpa" because our granfather was taller than Joe. Joe was perhaps about 5'5". In his later years he walked very bent over with a cane. He was always kind and soft-spoken. I can still hear his voice when he sang me songs in French when I was a child. His Bible was written in French. Among the few items on the bureau table in his bedroom was a clove-studded orange that hung alongside the mirror, suspended on a faded ribbon.
