Kim Marie Salmen, age 71, of Independence, MO, died Monday, December 16, 2008 in Independence.

She was born April 15, 1937 in Joplin, MO to Carl and Ada (Flynn) Leakey. She attended college in Berkley, CA, and following graduation, she was a substitute art teacher. For nine years she worked as a medical secretary at the University Towers Medical Pavillion. On February 27, 1988, Kim married Richard Salmen in Carl Junction, MO. She retired from working in 1993.

She was preceded in death by her brother Alan Leakey, and sister Bonita Leakey.

Kim is survived by her husband Richard Salmen of Independence, MO; sons Jerry Dale of Oronogo, MO, Carl Nichols of Phoenix, AZ; son and daughter-in-law Tony Nichols and Ifigenia Karipidou of Blue Springs, MO; daughter Debbie Smith of Web City, MO; daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Tim Barbee of Rockport, MO; step-children Robert Salmen of Grand Island, NE, James Salmen of Fort Wentworth, GA, Jean Lynne of Chanute, KS, Susan Mitchell of Statesboro, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law Enoch and Susan Leakey of Carl Junction, MO, Joseph and Darlene Leakey of Joplin, MO, Shannon and Lori Angel of Nebraska City, NE; sister Fern Leakey of Rogers, AR; sister and brother-in-law Naomi and Jerald Furnas of Brownville, NE; sister-in-law Mary Pruss of Wahoo, NE; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christina Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 22, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. Interment will be at Sunrise North Cemetery in Wahoo.
