Born in Island, Kentucky, the daughter of J. Bernard and Martine (Sauer) Hughart, Jean had three brothers, John, Paul and Archie. Jean liked to go by her middle name of Jean. She mothered her brothers as they were growing up. Jean was a hard worker since she was ten years old. She graduated from Livermore High School in 1946. Following high school, Jean attended Lois Glen Beauty College. She became a licensed beautician. A co-worker of Sam Powers was a client of Jean's in the beauty salon in Island, Kentucky. Jean and Sam began a friendship that quickly blossomed into romance. On the day of their wedding, November 10,1950, they had to find a new preacher because the original preacher didn't show up until the service was over. Jean worked as a beautician in Owensboro, Kentucky until 1954 when she began her family. Jean and Sam celebrated as they welcomed their two sons, Paul and Tim into the family fold. Jean welcomed motherhood with a warm smile and much enthusiasm. She took care of her little family, guiding her sons and nurturing them. She encouraged her sons to use their talents and work up to their highest potential. Jean was an immaculate house keeper and an outstanding cook. She baked delicious cakes and dishes for her family to enjoy. She was always there for her family whenever they needed her. She liked boating with her family and friends on the lake at Rough River. Jean and Sam spent lots of their time at their lake home with their friends and family. She was funny and everyone enjoyed her sense of humor. Together, Sam and Jean enjoyed traveling and went out west last year. They enjoyed special trips to Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Florida. As the years passed Jean rejoiced as she welcomed her grandchildren, Lauren, Alexander and Nicholas. These youngsters were the highlight and delight of their grandma's life. She loved spending time with them and teaching them what she knew.
Jean was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Spending time at church, Jean felt a deep and devout faith throughout her life. She treasured the time she spent with her loved ones. She was a genuinely good lady who enriched our world. Jean passed away at Angel River Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 80. Her legacy of strength, devotion to her family and dedication to her faith will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
