Jefferson Davis "J.D." Wagoner was the son of John J. & Louisa Waggoner. He was obviously named after Jefferson Davis the President of the Confederacy. His father was a Confederate soldier who rode with Gen. John Hunt Morgan. He married Mary Elizabeth Herrington and had 5 children: Mary Elizabeth, Artie, Mamie, Lula, and Bessie M. He was a farmer. He was a member of Wagoner's Chapel Methodist Church. He is buried beside his wife & 2 daughters, Mamie and Lula, in Battlegrove Cemetery in section SG1.

Obitutary From The Cynthiana Democrat: "J.D. Wagoner; Jefferson Davis Wagoner, 82 years old, dies Sunday, February 13, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Earl Withers and Mr. Withers, on the Tricum road, after an illness of ten days. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 o' clock at the Whaley Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Florence officiating, Burial in Battle Grove cemetery. Pall Bearers, John and E. E. Herrington, Berthel Jenkins, Will Hiten, L. D. and Creed Wagoner. Mr. Wagoner was born October 31, 1861 in this county, a son of the late John and Louisa Wagoner and had spent practically his entire life in this community. He married Mrs. Mary Jane Herrington, who died October 19, 1933, and his daughter Mrs. Withers is the only surviving child. A sister, Miss Melissa Ann Wagoner also survives. Mr. Wagoner was a member of the Methodist church at Wagoners Chapel, joining many years ago, and has been a faithful attendant. A fine old gentleman, devoted to his family and friends, his death bring [Sic] sorrow to many homes."

"Jefferson Davis Wagoner familiarly known by his many friends as "J.D." died at the residence of his son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Earl Withers in this county at the age of 82 years after 10 days illness.
Born in this county Oct. 31, 1861, this well known farmer was the son of the late John and Louise Wagoner, both natives of this county. About 45 years ago Mr. Wagoner married Miss Mary Jane Herrington, who preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1933.
Surviving in addition to the daughter is a sister, Miss Melissa Ann Wagoner, of this county. Deceased, who spent practically his entire life in Harrison County, joined Wagoner's Chapel Methodist Church many years ago. Funeral services at the Whaley Funeral Home Tuesday, were in charge of Rev. Jesse Florence. Internment was in Battle Grove Cememtery with the following selelcted as bearers: John and E.E. Herrington, Berthal Jenkins, Will Hiten, L.D. and Creed Wagoner."
