Obituary:

Harry H. Aldrich, Sr., 69 of Route 20, New Lebanon died January 31 at Hillcrest Hospital, Pittsfield, MA., after a long illness. Born in Blandford, MA., October 22, 1916, son of Leon and Cora Colburn Aldrich, he had been a resident of the Springfield, MA. area before moving to New Lebanon 25 years ago. He worked for the Columbia County Department of Transportation until 1964, and then worked as a child care coordinator for the Berkshire Farm for Youth in Canaan, until retiring in October 1979.

Mr. Aldrich was an Army veteran of World War II and a member and former adjutant of the Floyd Carlton Post 1236 American Legion in New Lebanon Center.

His first wife, the former Nellie Pratt, died January 1, 1969, and his second wife, the former Mary E. Colburn, died August 20, 1984. He leaves four sons, Carl D. Aldrich of Westfield MA., Harry H. Aldrich Jr. of Brainard, James L. Aldrich of Panama, Neb., and Thomas L. Aldrich of East Chatham; a daughter Patricia P. King of New Lebanon; three brothers, Walter Aldrich of Webster, MA., Lewis Aldrich of Stonington MA., and Robert Aldrich of Chicopee, MA.; a sister, Lillian Pellitier of Springfield; 27 grandchildren and several great-granchildren.

The funeral was February 2 at the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, Main Street, Stephentown, with the Rev. Ernest D. Smith, pastor of New Lebanon Congregational Church, officiating.

Bearers were Robert Aldrich, a brother; Alber Wheeler, Alfred Kroboth Sr. and Harry Downey.

Burial will be in the spring at the Garfield Cemetery, Stephentown.

Donations in Mr. Aldrich's memory may be made to the Berkshire Farm for Youth in care of the funeral home.
