Senior Master Sergeant Edwin B. "Ed" Cook, United States Air Force (Ret.), 75, of Marietta, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. He was born in Polk County, to the late Hugh and Margree Hindmon Cook. A native of Cedartown, he was a 21 year U.S. Air Force veteran having served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, primarily as a gunner aboard B-52 Bombers. Following his military retirement, he retired from the United States Postal Service with over 20 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicky Cook Hefner and his sister, Grace Cook Bridges. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Lynn Cook; his brother, William Cook; sisters, Patsy Guice and Dorothy Eastwood; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 11 a.m., from the chapel of the Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta with Chaplain Phil Owen officiating. Interment followed at 1:30 p.m., in Northview Cemetery in Cedartown with full military honors. The Carmichael Funeral Home of Marietta had charge of the arrangements.
