Religious figure, scholar, educator. The eldest son of respected Talmudist Joseph Messing, Rabbi Messing was born in Generokgwo, Posen. Over his lifetime he founded and served twelve congregations and twenty-three Sunday-schools in Nevada, Oregon, California and Illinois. He authored several popular Sabbath-school text-books, including "A Hebrew Primer" and "The Jewish Catechism." Messing's rabbinical service included Mecklenberg, Poland, San Francisco's Congregation Sherith Israel and Congregation Beth Israel, and Chicago's Congregation B'nai Shalom (today part of KAM Isaiah Israel).
