Civil War Veteran:

He enlisted on August 24, 1864 as a Private and was mustered in to the 2nd Vermont Light Artillery.
He was transferred out on March 1, 1865 and transferred to the 1st Vermont Heavy Artillery.
He was mustered out on July 28, 1865.

Federal Pension Information:
He applied for a pension on April 21, 1884 from the State of Vermont. His widow (Samantha S. Atwater) applied for a pension on February 2, 1921 from the State of Vermont.

Alfred's grandparents were Daniel Atwater and Lois Stevens. His parents were David Socrates Atwater and Betsey Wilder (per his death record and the 1850, 1860 Census records.
