Word has been received from the adjutant general's office of the war department that Sgt. John E. Pohlman, Jr., Hollister, died Feb. 3, 1945, at Rheinback, Germany, while a prisoner of war of the German government.
Sergeant Pohlman, who had been missing since Dec. 19, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, went overseas in September 1944, with the 309th Engineers. While a prisoner, he succumbed to pneumonia and diphtheria, according to word received from a fellow prisoner by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Pohlman of Hollister.
His widow, Mrs. Catherine B. Pohlman, resides at Pocatello.
Burial was in the U. S. military cemetery in Belgium.
The war department communication to his mother concludes, "I trust that the knowledge of your son's heroic sacrifice in action may be a source of sustaining comfort to you."
