Roy L. Thompson, 77, of Jerome, died Thursday evening at St. Benedict's Family Medical Center in Jerome.

Born July 5, 1909 in Rule, Texas, he was reared in Texas. He married Hattie R. Townsend on Sept. 24, 1929, in Pawhuska, Okla. They moved to Hagerman in 1940, where he worked for the Fish & Game Department for a time. They moved to Wendell, and then in 1945 they moved to Jerome, where he had since resided. She died in 1956. He had worked for Heuer Brothers, for Craig Produce and then later for LeRoy Ellis and Neil Weir Produce. Prior to his retirement in 1976, he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Surviving are: five sons, Kenneth R. Thompson, Arthur J. Thompson, Bill J. Thompson, John Thompson and Leroy "Buck" Thompson, all of Jerome; three daughters, Judy of Las Vegas, Nev., Betty Sue of Idaho Falls and Mary Lou of Jerome; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hove-Robertson Funeral Chapel in Jerome, with the Rev. Bill Hare officiating. Burial will be in the Jerome Cemetery.

Friends may call t the chapel Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9 to 10 a.m.
