Raleigh George Lakes age 90 of Baker Street passed away at his daughter's home on Thursday January 22, 2009.


Raleigh was born in Bethel, KY to the late Tom Milt and Pollie Hellard Lakes. He was retired from the Blue Grass Army Depot and a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Bethel, KY however, attended Berea Church of God with his daughter.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Eula Rose Lakes, one son Dwight Lakes, a grandson Mike Lakes, three great grandchildren Greg Allen DeHaas, Joey Smith and Billy Smith; three brothers Bart, Ed and Otis Lakes and three sisters China Slone, Cora Chrisman and Josie Chrisman.


His is survived by his five children Doris (Emma) Lakes, Richmond, IN, Dewey (Melinda) Lakes, Lynn, IN, Mary (Edmond) Stone, Lexington, KY, Martha Sue Longsworth, Richmond, KY and Cleo (Earl) Sandlin, Berea, KY; one brother Hillard Lakes, Morristown, TN; one sister Evelyn Sinclair, Lexington, KY; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be 3 pm Monday January 26, 2009 at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea with Rev. Stephen Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in the T.M. Lakes Cemetery in Sand Gap. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm Sunday at the funeral home.


Honorary bearers will be his granddaughters. Active bearers will be his grandsons.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care Plus, Kidd Drive, Berea, KY 40403.
