Betty J. Klein, 91, Dallas, Wis., died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Pioneer Nursing Home, Prairie Farm.

She was born Aug. 16, 1918, to Phillip and Eleanor (Waltz) Alexander in the town of Maple Grove, Barron County. On Oct. 28, 1935, she married Floyd Klein in the town of Prairie Lake. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2005.

She loved to entertain with good food and a lot of it. She was a 4-H Leader for many years and taught sewing, cake decorating and food preparation. Along with Evelyn Newman, she baked many cakes for weddings, graduations and birthdays. Their wedding cakes traveled to Iowa, Washington and many other states for relatives.

When Betty and Floyd farmed south of Hillsdale, she ran the farm while Floyd worked road construction. They built their home in Dallas in 1970.

She loved her family and especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are sons Allen (Staci) of Dallas and Harvey (Kristi) of Hillsdale; a daughter Donna Bensend of Dallas; a son-in-law David (Arlys) Hoveland of Dallas; grandchildren Marj (Wayne) McDonald, Andy Bensend, Janet Bensend, Steven (Leslie) Bensend, Karen (James) Offord, Julie Klein, Lisa (Jeff) Bauer, Phillip (Cindi) Klein, Mark Klein, Christopher (Ashley) Hoveland and Minda (Jason) Matthys; great-grandchildren Katie, Betty and Jordan McDonald, Abraham (Stephanie) Bensend, Austin (Shannon) Bensend, Anna Rose, John and Luke Bensend, Amanda and Abigail Offord, Adam (Molly) Offord, Ryan and Jessica Kistner, Tyarra Daniels, Weston Wincek, Mayce, Gage and Trenton Klein and Madeline, Maxwell and Kaitlyn Matthys; great-great-grandchildren Alaine and Jordan; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on May 8, 2007; a son William; a daughter Eleanore Hoveland; a daughter-in-law Barbara Klein; and a son-in-law Don Bensend.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 8, from First Baptist Church, Barron, with Rev. Darrel Robinson officiating and interment at Wayside Cemetery, Barron.

Visitation was held 3-7 p.m. Sunday from Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Home, Dallas, and an hour prior to services at the church.
