Henry Ellison was born in January 1817 in Statesburg, SC, to William "April" Ellison and Matilda. He 1st married Mary Elizabeth Bonneau and had a daughter, Matilda who married S. Benehaly. Henry's 2nd wife was Ameila Shrewbury with whom he had the following children, Henry Shrewbury, Louisa, George, and Amelia G. Ellison. His sibings were Aliza Ann, William, and Reuben Ellison. Henry died on August 20, 1883 in Statesburg, SC. His obituary was published in the Sumter Watchman and Southron. This man was known and had friends throughout the country and the firm of which he was a member had built Cotton gins for hundreds of farmers, not only in Sumter, but also in surrounding counties.
