Researched and compiled by the Kartchner Brothers

A Descendant of the Kartchner/Wilcox family of Philadelphia

Sarah and her parents were commemorated as one of the first 2090 Pioneers to enter Utah [from summer 1847 thru summer 1848] on page 241 in "E.L. Sloan & Co Utah Gazetteer and City Directory for 1884 (Pioneer
Section)".

As their first child was born while at winter quarters in Pueblo, it is recorded that she was the first white child to be born in the Colorado Territory. This event would later be acknowledged by the State of Colorado by a presentation of a gold medal to Sarah.

The Kartchners entered the Salt Lake Valley as part of the second major party to arrive, commonly known as the "Mississippi Saints".

Her father conducted the first marriage ceremony for (Sarah) Emma to Oren Twitchel on 1 JAN 1864 in Beaver, Utah.

Children:

Emma Jane 25 Oct 1864 - 21 Jun 1865
William Delray 30 May 1866 - Aug 1866

[Both believed to be buried in either Beaver or Iron County]

It appears that Sarah and Oren divorced sometime after the 1870 census.
