Scott Martha Delilah (Black) passed away on 8 Mar 1939 the result of severe burns on her back and body when she accidentally came in contact with an electric heater about 2 weeks ago at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harvey Green in Garrett, DeKalb, Indiana, USA where she was spending the winter. She was born 26 Mar 1858 and died 8 Mar 1939, aged 80 years, 11 months and 8 days. Her parents were among the early Noble County pioneers families. Surviving are the husband, Charles; a daughter Helen at home; 5 daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Harvey Green of Garrett, DeKalb, Indiana, USA, Mrs. Roy Wible of Kendallville, Mrs. Charles Grate and Mrs. Marshall Young, near Albion, and Mrs. Dale Schwab of Albion. Funeral was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Schwab Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. H. A. Kunkle officiating. Burial, Mount Pleasant Cemetery. + 3-?-1939
Mrs. Black's dress was engulfed in flames that came up her back and over her head as she bathed her disabled daughter, Helen. She lived approximately 2 weeks while being cared for in the Garrett, DeKalb, Indiana, USA hospital.
