Rubye Jewel Watson Ragsdale, 80 of Brenham, passed away on July 16, 2009 at St. Joseph Regional Health Care Center, after a brief illness.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Lewis Funeral Home, 4010 Highway 105 East, in Brenham.

Services are set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church, 204 Kerr Street, in Brenham with Dr. John Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

She was born on October 12, 1928 in Bryan, to Bernice Thornton and Fred Watson. She attended school in Bryan and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Huston-Tillotson University at 19 years of age. She later received two Masters Degrees in Education and Arts from Prairie View A&M University.

She was employed by Texas A&M University Extension Service for 36 years and served as County Extension Agent for Washington, County. She was highly acknowledged and received numerous awards during her tenure. She was also awarded the Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor given by the National Association of Extension Home Economists.

She was a member of several state and national extension associations as well as a leader in her community and church, Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Cheralyn Ragsdale-Felder and husband, Will, of Brenham; granddaughter, Kameshe' Clark Jackson and husband, Michael, Houston; great-granddaughter, Maycee Jewel Jackson; sister and brother, Minnie Taylor, Joe Tolliver and wife, Pat, all of Seattle, Wash.; God daughter, Barbara Lewis Soloman and husband, Charles, of Spring; her devoted companion, a cocker spaniel, Bailey; numerous other family and friends
