La Porte City--Mabel V. Brown, 83, of 104 Bishop Ave., died Tuesday, Oct, 23, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, of heart failure.
She was born June 27, 1907, in Benton County, daughter of Gustav and Bertha Stiehl Hartz. She married Ralph R. Brown on March 16, 1927, in La Porte City.
Mrs. Brown graduated from Iowa State Teachers College and taught in country schools around La Porte City.
Survivors include her husband, two sons, Ben R. and Bill R., both of La Porte City, seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Hartz of Maynard; and a sister, Gladys Tucker of Oklahoma City, Okla.; she was preceeded in death by a sister, Mildred Hamilton.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City, with burial in West View Cemtery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m today at Huisman Funeral Home and an hour before services at the church on Friday.
Memorial may be directed to the family.
