"An Historical Account of Some of the Welsh Settlers of Hilltown and New Britain by Rev Joseph Mathias with Additional Facts By Edward Mathews 1876"

Chapter V

John Thomas
Elder William Thomas' son John was born in Delaware County, December 9, 1703. He was called to the ministry at Montgomery in 1749. He was ordained in 1751, and where it is observed he must have labored with the pastor (Benjamin Griffith) and his father. It appears that he was called to the Pastoral charge of the church of Montgomery after the death of Benjamin Griffith, and that he continued as such until the church in Hilltown became organized.
Prior to this organization, he had the care of the congregation in Hilltown. The Lower meeting house was endowed as has been stated by William Thomas. The upper end house by John Kelley. Those congregations were considered branches of Montgomery Church. Their separation from the church of Montgomery took place Nov 10, 1781.
Elder John Thomas was called to the pastoral church which station he entered upon and continued to fill until he became enfeebled by age.
The church then procured Elder James McLaughlen to his assistance. John Thomas married Sarah Radnor, by whom he had sons and daughters. Of his children, only four survived him.
