Tony Howard Phillips, 103, the oldest living Belleville resident, passed away Feb. 13, 2006, at the home of his grandson, Curtis Phillips and his caregiver, Cheri Taylor.

He was born May 11, 1902, in Wood County, a son of the late Charles Edward and Hattie Sams Phillips. Tony was a member of the Wadesville Church of Christ. He was a retired farmer and had at one time worked at the Parkersburg Stock Yard and the Stone Quarry at Akron, Ohio. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Surviving are two sons, Clyde Phillips and his wife, Lorena, of Belleville and Samuel Phillips and his wife, Ileene, of Washington; one daughter, Virginia Worrell and her husband, Larry, of Goldsboro, N.C.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Emrick Phillips; a son, Howard Phillips; a daughter, Mary Giffen; two grandchildren; three brothers, Alton, Harry and Leonard Phillips; and a sister, Lula Headley.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street, Parkersburg, with Evangelist Paul Casebolt officiating. Burial will follow at the Wigal Cemetery at Wadesville. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
