Entrepreneur and Philanthropist. He founded the now defunct A. W. Rollins Company in Chicago that sold dyes to woolen mills, he was one of the earliest settlers who founded and settled the City of Winter Park, Florida, USA. As an advocate of both education and charitable causes, in 1885, Rollins made a sizeable donation of $50,000 in cash and real estate along the northern shore of Lake Virginia in Winter Park to help found Rollins College, helping bring the first institution of higher learning in the State of Florida to existence. As a result of this sizeable donation, Rollins College, which was named in his honor, still remains not only as the first college in the state but also as one of the top Liberal Arts colleges in the Southeastern United States.
