Bill Jones, 77, of Mooreland passed away early Sunday morning at the Golden Living Care Facility in Muncie following an extended illness.

He was born January 23, 1932 in Milton, Indiana and was the son of the late Clarence and Florence Riley Jones. He was a graduate of Mooreland High School and began farming in 1954 and continued to farm for 10 years. He later was a truck driver for both Meadow Gold Dairy Products and the IRCD Truck Lines based in Muncie and Richmond for over 20 years. He retired in 1980.

Mr. Jones was a Decorated Veteran of the Korean War and was presented with the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for injuries he received in Korea on July 4, 1953. He served in Korea in 1952-53. He was a member of the Purple Heart Association of Indianapolis. Bill was a member of the First Christian Church of Mooreland and the American Legion Post #137 of New Castle. He was a breeder of Belgium Draft Horses and raised colts. He loved horses and enjoyed taking them to parades and fairs. He especially loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Iris (Houser) Jones; two sons, Edward (wife-Sandy) Jones of Mooreland and Jeff Jones of New Castle; one step grandson, Matt Pierce of New Castle; two step great grandchildren, Calib and Carolina Pierce of New Castle; two sisters, Mary Luke of New Castle and Linda Holcomb of New Castle and one brother, Jimmy (wife-Mary Ann) Jones of New Castle. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marcella Champ, Betty Sears and Thelma Walker; three brothers, Harold, John and Sam Jones.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Main & Davis Funeral Home, Astor Main Blue River Chapel with the Reverend Bill Riley officiating. Burial followed in the Mooreland Cemetery.
