John W. Royster was the son of Wesley S. and Mary (Polly) Murdock Royster. He was born June 11, 1835, in Cobb Co., Georgia. The family moved to Clay Co., Indiana where John married Delila Holaday, June 17, 1855. They had two children; William F. Royster, and Nancy Jane Royster, my great-grandmother, born December 22, 1858. Delila died in 1863 and John married Sarah E. Murdock Matthews, Oct. 20, 1867, in Crawford Co., Illinois. They had at least four known children; Mary A. Royster Sheeley (Wlm), George F. Royster, Sarah E. Royster Sandridge (James), and John R. Royster. John W. Royster died March 11, 1884 of injuries sustained in the Civil War.
