Dr. James L Blevins, 67, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004, at his home after a long-term illness. Dr. Blevins was a native of Hot Coal, WV, and a retired professor of New Testament interpretation at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

From 1968-69, Dr. Blevins was the pastor of Greenbrier Baptist Church in Arlington, VA. He then began his teaching career at Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC, as a professor of religion from 1969-1974. He was an author of several books, including Revelation as Drama and Revelation Knox Preaching Guide , as well as many teaching and preaching articles in Review & Expositor and other publications.

He finished his undergraduate degree at Duke University and received his bachelor of divinity (BD) degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia (now Palmer Seminary), his master of divinity degree (MDiv) from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC, and his Ph.D. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville.

Dr. Blevins held numerous interim pastorates and Bible study seminars and had a special interest in the Book of Revelation.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine R. Blevins; two daughters, Jennifer Blevins Sinski (Joseph) and Cynthia Blevins Doll (Martin); a son, James F. Blevins III (Kathie); four grandchildren, Brittany Williams, Adrienne Blevins and Kevin and Andrea Doll; two sisters, June Spry and Eleanora McClenney; and one aunt, Oma Tarter.
