Cortlandt Edward Baker was the older of two children born to Cortlandt, Sr. and Mary Baker of Essex County, New Jersey. His sister Clara was a year younger.

"Cort" served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in various eastern and southern cities in the U.S. Previously to his enlistment in the Army, he worked for a division of Cruicible Steel in New York, and met his wife-to-be, Harriett Fitzpatrick, where she was working as a secetary.

After his enlistment was over he returned to his job with Cruicible Steel, and he and Harriett were transferred to many cities (east to west) during his time with them...the last being Downey, California. He and Harriett had over 60 years together, and three children were born of this union.

After a few years of retirement, he and Harriett left Downey and moved to Lompoc, California. They lived several years in Lompoc, before Harriett passed away in 2005. Cort eventually moved to Pasadena, CA a few years later to be nearer his son. He passed away in 2013 when he was 100 years old.

A Note from his family: "Cort brought out the best in all he knew by putting his family first and working hard. Kind, generous, diligent, funny, smart and always loving...he will be missed by his family, close circle of friends, and all whose lives he touched."
