Joseph W Eck,73,5 Dewitt,veteran tailor and musician,died Jan.3,1949 in a local nursing home after an illness of 26 months.

Born in Utica May 26,1875,he was the son of Stephen and Sophia Raehm Eck. In June 1897 he married Catherine Knott,she died in 1924. In 1926 he married Mary Hillebrand,who survives.

A tailor by trade,he worked with his father and later was employed by H.H.Cooper for 23 years and the Golde Clothing Company for 12 years. He operated the Highland Tailor Shop Whitesboro St. until his resent illness. He was known to many Uticans as "Bill Eck the one man band" He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and it's Holy Name Society,also the St.Aloyalus Young Men's Society.

He leaves his wife,three sons,Stephen,Anthony and Police Officer Louis Eck. Two sisters,Mrs.Anthony Schafer,Sauquoit,and Mrs Warren Towne,Clayville.A brother Michael Eck,Yorkville. Nine grandchildren,three great grandchildren,several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 am Friday from the Heinez Funeral Home,1517 Whitesboro and at 9:30 am from St Joseph's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
