Husband of Rebecca [Munger] Needham
Son of Anthony and Mary (Molly) [Moulton] Needham
Capt. Anthony Needham - son of Anthony and Molly. He lived during all his adult years in this Town (Wales, MA), died here. He settled on the "Alvin Needham Place" . He was not the first settler from that "Place", but succeeded Freeborn Moulton, who was the formal occupant thereof.
In the zenith of his manhood capabilities and usefulness, he stood away prominent, if not pre-eminent, amomg his townsmen. His decendants may ever quote to him, unblushingly, for ancestral honor. Have no data for chroneling the date of his death.

Notes of Anthony: Capt. Anthony Needham was a lieutenant in the French and Indian War, and a Captain in the Revolution. He was the first representative from So. Brimfield in the Massachusetts Legislature; selectman, 1746, 1758, 1759; assessor, 1746; selectman 1764. Died in 1785 in Hopkinton, MA, while on a journey to Boston.
"A Treasury Certificate of unspecified interest issued to Anthony Needham for his service in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. These were payable in gold, silver or bills of credit. Soldiers or their dependents usually received four such notes, with each one being redeemable in a different year, to cover the balance due them. Each certificate was signed by the State Treasurer, John Lawrence (The Sanders Price Guide to Autographs, 5th Edition, lists his signature on a document at $90.00).
A record of interest payments is listed on the reverse. The hole punch indicates that the voucher was paid in full and then cancelled. "

Absolom Gardner states in his 1873 Centenial Address to the town of Wales regarding Biographical Sketches of it's people:

The oldest of Anthony and Molly's children was Captain Anthony, who married Rebecca Munger, a sister of the four Munger brothers. His homestead comprised the farms in the west part of the town, and which afterward, divided, made the homesteads of our former highly respected townsmen, Alvin Needham and Cyrus Munger. Captain Anthony was a man greatly respected, was the first Representative from South Brimfield in the Massachusetts Legislature, and was the progenitor of some of the most noted and worthy of our town's former inhabitants, among whom may be named Mr. Alvin Needham, already mentioned, and Alfred Needham, Esq.
(Grandson and Great-Grandson).
