MRS. THORNTON ALLEN DEAD
Mrs Sarah M. Allen, colored, the wife of Thornton Allen, died at 4 o'clock Sunday morning at her home, 1017 Cottonwood street, after a sickness of less than a week.
Mrs. Allen's maiden name was Sarah Love. She was born in Macon County, North Carolina, November 13, 1861. She came to Kansas in 1871, and lived a few months in Kansas City, Kan. From Kansas City, she came to Emporia. She was married Sept 28, 1879 in Emporia to Thornton Allen.
Mrs. Allen is survived by eight children: They are Bert J. Allen; Mrs. Nannie Stovall, Mrs. Mamie Stewart, Jesse T. Allen, Eugene J. Allen and Frances L. Allen, all of Emporia; Thomas E. Allen and Charles Allen, of Kansas City, Mo. The sons who live in Kansas City came to Emporia yesterday. Mrs. Allen also is survived by her husband, Thornton Allen, a sister, Mrs. Ellen Job, of Emporia, and two aunts, Mrs. Harriet Taylor of Emporia, and Mrs. Martha Love of Waco, Texas. Mrs. Allen was a member of St. James Baptist church.
Funeral services for Mrs Allen will be held at 2 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, at St. James Baptist Church, and will be conducted by Rev. C. P. Morrow. The interment will be made in Maplewood Cemetery.
