AARON MINOR ALLEN Born: December 25, 1818…. Horse Prairie, Evansville, Randolph, Illinois Married: March 02, 1843…. Sparta, Randolph, Illinois To Jurinda Sarah McClinton Died: December 04, 1903… Sparta, Randolph, Illinois There has never been much said about Aaron. I know he believe in educating his daughters at a time when must father's didn't. He sent them to college in Monmouth, Illinois. After reading his Civil War diary, I would say he suffered from depression. He was smart in business but too trusting of Church people. I understand he was an orphan as was Jurinda's father, Samuel McClinton. Aaron started out by sweeping floors in the general store and ended up owning a store, a flourmill, and an orchard. From his diary he attended several churches each Sunday. It was good business. However, he was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. In 1969, when I visited Sparta, the plaque was still in the entry which commending him and several other elders for the gift of the Church Organ
