PENDLETON - Judith M. Scott, 66, of Pendleton died Sunday, July 26, 2009, in St. Anthony Hospital. A dressing ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 28 in Burns Mortuary of Pendleton, with a rosary following at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. A mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 29 in St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Pendleton. Burial will follow in the Agency Cemetery, Pendleton.

Mrs. Scott was born Aug. 26, 1942, in Pendleton to Francis and Rachel (VanPelt) Shillal. She was raised and educated in Pendleton and graduated from the Pendleton High School in 1960. After her graduation she attended college in Oakland, Calif., and later received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Haskell College in Lawrence, Kan.

After college she returned to Pendleton and later married LYMAN SCOTT. The family lived in Pendleton, Stanfield, and Springfield before they returned to Pendleton. While in Pendleton she worked as an LPN for a time. Her husband died at an early age and she raised her family on her own. She later worked in administration with the Confederated Tribes, mostly in finance as treasurer for the tribes. She retired in the early 1980s.

She was a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, was a co-founder of the Cayumawa Youth Services and also worked with the Tribal Recreation Department.

Mrs. Scott is survived by son Lee Scott of Pendleton; daughters Julie Scott, Doris Scott and Andria Scott, all of Pendleton; brother Thomas Scott of Wapato, Wash.; sisters Helen Morrison of Pendleton, Stella Brown of Seattle and Sylvia Allen of Lapwai, Idaho; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in her death by her parents, two brothers and five sisters.
