Funeral services for James Albert Wood were conducted on Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at the LDS Stake Center Chapel in Green River. Military graveside services and interment followed in the Riverview Cemetery.

Wood, 86, of 225 Andrews St., Green River, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at his home. A longtime resident of Green River, Wood died following a brief illness.

He was born July 12, 1920 in Oak Hill, Kan., the son of George William and Loie Downs Wood. He attended school in Lanford, Kan., and was a 1939 graduate of Lanford High School.

He married the former Patsy Warby on Aug. 24, 1966, in Evanston. Their marriage was later sealed in the Bountiful LDS Temple in Bountiful, Utah.

Wood was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He came to Wyoming to work for a pipeline company south of Green River that is now called North West Pipeline. He worked there for 20 years. He was also employed as a baggageman by the Railway Express, which is now Union Pacific Railroad. He was later employed with the U.S. Postal Service both as a clerk and a carrier for many years and retired in 1980.

Wood was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was the past president and secretary of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 2350.

His interests included gardening, fishing, being an avid outdoorsman and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Wood of Green River; two sons, James Wood and wife Vivian of Farmington, Mo., and Glen Wood and wife Cherie of Green River; two daughters, Shanna Mecham and husband Keith of Park River, N.D., and Shelly Moen and husband Marlin of Green River; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Loie; four sisters; one brother; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
