Albert's parents were Octave Mercier and Marie Adelina Boulard. Albert was born in St. Jacques, de L'Achigan, Comte Montcalm, Quebec, Canada in 1871. The 1881 Canadian census places Albert Joseph Mercier in St. Jacques, Montcalm, Quebec, he was 10 years of age. The 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 census places him in Chippewa County, Wisconsin.
In March of 1891, Albert entered the United States at Port Huron. Albert made his Declaration of Intent on November 2, 1896. He made application for citizenship on September 23, 1913. Albert Joseph Mercier received citizenship on April 18, 1914. It was recorded at the Circuit Court of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Albert worked as a lumberjack at Ruby Sawmill. Albert was a foreman for a logging company, owned by Joseph (Joe) Bernier, in Colburn, in the late 1800s. Albert's brother-in-law, (Ludger Beaudin) worked for Bernier driving steers, which were used as much as horses in those days, to skid out the logs. Albert was also a skilled carpenter and built several homes, schools and farm buildings in the Colburn area. Albert and Agnes were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Boyd, Chippewa, Wisconsin. Father Nau officiated. Witnesses were Ludger Beaudin and Mary Beaudin, brother and sister to Agnes Beaudin. Their faith was a grounding element in their lives and those of their children. Albert went to Michigan to look for work but returned to Wisconsin to dairy farm. Albert and Agnes farmed in Colburn, south of Pike Lake Road. Their 10 children were all born on the family farm, not far from the Pike Lake School, no longer standing, on D and Pike Lake Road. Pike Lake area is between Cornell and Boyd. After the family farm was taken over by Delvina Mercier (daughter), Albert and Agnes moved to Stanley, Chippewa, Wisconsin. Albert was trying to renovate the house that he and Agnes purchased. He died of massive heart failure while digging up a sewer pipeline. At the time of his death he was living on Barber Street. Both Albert and Agnes are buried at St. Joseph Cemetery, Boyd, Chippewa, Wisconsin.
