Mrs Harriet W Palmer Dies at Lakewood, O.
Former Resident of City and Member of First Class to Graduate at Smith College
Northampton, Dec 12 - Mrs Harriet (Warner) Palmer, 75, of Pittsburg, Pa, formerly of Northampton, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs Winifred Bennett, in Lakewood, O. She was a member of the first class to graduate from Smith college in 1879...Mrs Palmer's husband, Prof Charles S Palmer, was a member of the class of 1879 of Amherst college, and in 1929 they attended the 50th reunion of their classes. Mrs Palmer led the alumnae procession at the 50th anniversary celebration of Smith college in 1925, and was prominent in alumnae work.
Mrs Palmer was the daughter of John Flavel and Harriet (Leigh) Warner of Florence. The family lived in Williamsburg a short time and Mrs Palmer was born in that town. Prof Palmer was formerly principal at the Florence high and grammar school building and Mrs Palmer taught there and also in Holyoke. Prof Palmer was afterward professor of chemistry at Boulder university, Col, and later president of the School of Mines at Golden, Col.
Mrs Palmer leaves her husband, three daughters, Mrs Helen Bissell of Pittsburg, Mrs Bennett of Lakewood, O., and Miss Leigh Palmer of Pittsburg; a sister, Mrs Mary P Eusits [sic] of Newton, and two brothers, John L Warner and Charles Warner of this city. Arthur S Warner, who died recently at his home in Florence, was another brother. The body will be brought to Florence, arriving Thursday morning at 10:10, and there will be a committal service at Spring Grove cemetery.
