Bowman, May 24 - Funeral services for Sergeant Leonard Everett Berry, 28 years old, who was killed in action while crossing the English channel on Christmas Day, 1944, will be held at the Bowman Southern Methodist Church Wednesday at 5 pm. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery, near Bowman.

Members of the Branchville and Bowmnan American Legion posts will serve as pallbearers. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside.

The body will arrive at the Southern railway station in Orangeburg at 10:30 am Wednesday and will be at the Dukes-Harley Funeral Home in Orangeburg until the services.

A native of Bowman, Sergeant Berry was a son of Mrs Metta Whetsell Berry and the late Clarence M Berry. Before entering service, he was a pitcher for the Charleston Rebels. he was a member of the Southern Methodist church here.

He entered service in April 1942, and was stationed at Fort Eustis, Ga, Camp Stewart, Ga, and Camp Rucker.

Surviving besides his mother are his widow, Mrs Emma Mae Thompson Berry; three brothers, Johnnie Berry, of Orangeburg, and Wilson Berry and Wilbur Berry, both of Bowman, and a sister, Mrs A D Weathers, Jr of St George.
