James Allen Kibbey was b. 23 Oct 1847 in Edina, Knox Co MO to David and Elizabeth (Womack) Kibbey. The family moved to Bein 1852, by ox train over the Oregon Trail. While most sources indicate the Kibbeys settled in Benton County, the obituary for James said "They settled at Dixie, Polk Co., OR, where Mr. Kibbey grew to manhood and in 1869 married Sarah Louisa Kibby. {Sarah Louisa Davis, married 20 May 1869} They came to Gilliam County in 1899, residing here ever since. Mrs. Kibbey died about two years ago. Twelve children, thirty-three grandchildren and four-great-grandchildren survive. Mr. Kibbey was aged 78 years, 1 month, and 17 days. He was a highly respected citizen and a member of the Nazarene church since 1911 when that church was organized."

The obituary also stated he died December 10, while the gravestone shows a date of December 9, 1925.
