The Frederick Post - June 27, 1941
Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Carol LaRue Norris Dickinson, of Washington, D.C., on June 22 at the George Washington University Hospital where she had undergone an operation.
She is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Elmer, Leroy and Henry Norris, of Washington; Mrs. Lucille N. Thomas, Washington; Mrs. Mary Papkin, Philadelphia, Pa., and Mrs. Elsie Bussard, Frederick.
Mrs. Dickinson was the mother of the four children who were accidentally asphyxiated here in March, 1930.*
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Chambers Georgetown funeral home with interment at the Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.
* The four girls died when their mother sought refuge at her sister's home from her abusive husband, Lester Shields. She stepped out to talk with the neighbor and the unattended girls played with the new gas stove and were suffocated by the fumes. The girls were all buried in one casket at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD.
