FORRESTON - Velma M. Sheaffer, 88, of Forreston, died Friday, July 4, 2008, at Manor Court of Freeport. Velma was born June 17, 1920, near Forreston, the daughter of Jacob and Minnie (Harrenstein) Ludwig. She was a 1939 graduate of Forreston High School and later graduated from La Molla Beauty School. Velma married Marvin Ranz. She later married Glenn Russell. He preceded her in death. After his death, she married Robert Sheaffer. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 2005. Velma was a longtime member of Forreston Reformed Church. She enjoyed crocheting and playing cards with her friends. Survivors include two sons, Alan (Judy) Ranz and Galen Russell, both of Forreston; one brother, Marvin Ludwig; two sisters, Mildred Russman and Vera Johnson, both of Forreston; two stepsons, Dean (Jane) Sheaffer and Frederick (Alyce) Sheaffer; two stepdaughters, Janet (David) Heindel and Diane (John) Helin; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her three husbands. The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Forreston Reformed Church, with the Rev. James A. Stralow, pastor, officiating. Burial is at White Oak Cemetery, Forreston. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Forreston. A memorial has been established to Forreston Reformed Church.
