Solomon Hawkins was born in Stokes Co., NC to Lazarus Hawkins and Margaretha Elizabeth "Betsy" Petree. On Feb 7 1845 he married Mary James in Stokes Co., N.C. From the records at County Court in Danbury, NC. As newlyweds they must have moved within the year to Smyth Co, Virginia. Their first child Elizabeth was born Mar. 29, 1846 in Smyth Co., Elizabeth married William Allen Buchanan in Hawkins Co. TN on 30 Oct 1873. On-line chuch records show that, On Oct. 10 1846, Solomon was received by, Experience and Baptism, into the Membership of the St. Clair's Bottom Church, Their second child, William Franklin Hawkins 1848–1945 was to be my grandpa. He first married Louisa Jane Walker on 20 Jan 1870 and secondly married Winnie Eliza Gulley, in Hawkins Co. He is buried in Tulare City cemetery in Tulare, CA.; Ruffus J. Hawkins 1850–1884, Ruffas married Hannah Elkins in Hawkins Co., on 28 Sept 1884 and drowned before the year was out.; Lizzie Hawkins 1851–1910. On 15 Sep 1887 she married John Mason in Hawkins Co.; Samuel Alex C. Hawkins 1854–1939. On 5 Feb 1880 he married Malaha Ann Cline. They are both buried in the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery, in Hawkins Co.; Noah W. Hawkins 1859–1921. First he married Ronda Moore 18 Nov. 1880 and second he married Sarah Elizabeth Cobble in Green Co., TN on 13 Jan 1887. He died in 18 Apr 1921 in Dallas, Marion Co., Iowa; John W. Hawkins 1860. He married Elizabeth Synamon in Hawkins Co. TN on March, 20, 1890; Minerva "Nerve" Hawkiins 1862–1938. On 2 Apr 1891 she married Jacob "Jake" L. Wolfe in Hawkins Co.,TN. She and Jake are both buried at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery, Hawkins County TN. After Mary died he married a maiden names Nancy Cantrell and together the had four children: Isham Hawkins 1871, he married a lady named Hattie form Georgia, he was living in Georgia in 1930; Charles Hawkins born 1874–1945, in 1883 he married Mattie Beck, on Aug 27, 1941 he married Mae Arnott in Hawkins Co. TN. He was alive July of 1945 as indicated in his brother's obituary; and Lue Verna "Verne" Hawkins b.1880.
Solomon died on in 1892 at the home of his son Roman McNeal Hawkins near Lee Valley Tn. and is buried near his first wife Mary James.
